Online Volunteers

World Pulse's community site, PulseWire, is an interactive website where women worldwide, including those using internet cafes in rural areas, can speak for ourselves to the world and collaborate to solve global problems.

PulseWire provides online tools that enable women and allies to support each other across borders by telling our stories, exchanging resources, sharing solutions and collaborating in groups.

World Pulse is looking for passionate and committed online volunteers to nurture and support community members on PulseWire. Activities include:

Welcome: Every new member is is friended within 48 hours of registration.
Engage: Be an active participant in the PulseWire community. Contribute to conversations, praise exceptional users and content, be "present" and accessible to users. Goal: every post has at least 2 comments within 48 hours.
Teach: Educate new users on community feature set. Recommend community connections to posters. Place prominent calls to action to participate. Recommend content to Online Community Manager to be spotlighted on the homepage, and encourage members to comment and discuss.

Time commitment: 5 hours per week for a minimum commitment of 3 months.

Volunteers

We are always interested in learning about individuals with valuable skills who are passionate about broadcasting the leading voices of women and youth globally.

World Pulse is seeking detail-oriented, organized, and dedicated volunteers as we prepare for the launch of our print magazine and our social networking site, PulseWire.net.

If you know that you have skills to offer as a gift to our organization and would like to be involved in the future, please provide the following information in an email to volunteer@worldpulse.com

2. What are your top 3 skill areas where you think you can best support World Pulse as a volunteer?

3. Keeping in mind that the most likely categories for volunteer projects through 2008 will be related to:

• Data entry/administrative support

• Outreach efforts to grow our PulseWire.net community

• Editorial research

• Housekeeping, gardening, handy-woman tasks for our office

• Technical/web advising consulting

• Graphic design / video editing expertise

All positions require 5 – 10 hours of work per week in our NE Portland office, although some jobs can be performed off site via Skype and email.

A commitment of 3 months minimum is required. These are unpaid positions, but arrangements can be made for school credit.

This is an incredible opportunity to get up close and hands-on with a global non-profit organization and an excellent experience for those interested in journalism, technology, social networking, non-profit management, and global issues through the eyes of women.

If you are a consultant in marketing, public relations, business development, facilitation, technology, etc, and are interested in joining one of our pro bono consultant clusters, please submit a letter of introduction and résumé, including references, to Ila Asplund.

Translator Bank

If you are interested in being added to our volunteer translator bank, please submit a letter of introduction and résumé including your language skills, to ila@worldpulse.com. Our translators help bring more vibrant voices to World Pulse and bring World Pulse to more vibrant communities.

Healing Bank

If you are interested in being added to our volunteer healing bank (massage therapist, acupuncturist, reiki, chiropractic, etc) please submit a letter of introduction and references to Ila Asplund. Our healers generously gift a healing session twice a year to traveling international change makers and World Pulse staff.
