Inside the Pulse, 1st Quarter 2015

Dear Friend,

I wish to open this quarter's newsletter by extending my arms wide in a digital hug to all who engaged in our Path to Participation Initiative! It has been a truly exciting four weeks which, with the close of the initiative just on Thursday, was flooded with submissions from women around the world speaking out about Education, Health, and Gender-based Violence, to help us all chart the #PathThere to women's full and equal participation worldwide.

As you will see below, we have reached so many milestones like this one in these first few months of 2015, both as an organization and as a global network of change-makers. Our story is your story, and whether we are connecting to help each other feel heard, or providing resources to advance each other's visions and work, we are changing the world together. Thank you for being a part of this worldwide digital revolution!

Love,

Jensine

WOMEN OF WORLD PULSE CONTINUE TO WIN AWARDS

World Pulse Community Member Urmila from India receiving 2015 National Laadli Award

World Pulse Member Urmila

It seems like every quarter we are flooded with news of community members receiving awards and recognition for their incredible work. Many of them give partial thanks to World Pulse for the transformational connections and support they have found on our website. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Urmila Chanam of India (pictured) for winning the National Laadli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity for her campaign to end the stigma against menstruation in her country; Chi Yvonne Leina of Cameroon and Stella Paul of India for being named by Women Deliver as Top 15 Journalists for their consistent and game-changing coverage of women's and human rights issues; Pakistani leader Iffat Gill for receiving technical support from Beyond Access to create a network of community technology centers in Pakistan; and Sister Zeph from Pakistan, winner of World Pulse’s Lynn Syms Prize, who was recently featured in an achingly beautiful documentary by Channel Asia!

WORLD PULSE PARTNERS WITH CLINTON FOUNDATION TO CHART THE #PATHTHERE

World Pulse & No Ceilings Path to Participation Initiative: Join Us!

Join Us on The #PathThere!

Last month, World Pulse teamed up with No Ceilings: The Full Participation Project—an initiative of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation—for our first major initiative in 2015 to crowdsource the voices and expertise of our community. Our joint Path to Participation Initiative surfaced personal stories and local solutions from the World Pulse Online Community, all in response to the nearly 1 million data points on the status of women, girls, and gender equality presented by No Ceilings. The initiative just closed this week, with our community submitting many incredible stories to help chart the #PathThere and seek solutions to today's biggest challenges! Read the submissions here.

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS USHER IN A NEW MODEL OF LEADERSHIP ON WORLDPULSE.COM

World Pulse Badge: Community Champion

Community Champion Badge

When we launched our upgraded platform in January, we also launched a brand new leadership role: Community Champions. These women are community leaders who model World Pulse’s core values and help create a thriving, interactive network. Within their World Pulse Groups, Community Champions share resources, spotlight innovative solutions, and encourage connections between members, all to create a safe and meaningful environment for discussion and building movements. Collectively, these women bring rich life experience, facilitation skills, strong voices and listening ears, passion and expertise in their topic areas, and a burning desire to learn and share new things with women around the world. These Community Champions have been leading discussion and action in our network around two important topics: Economic Empowerment and Leadership. Read about our first Community Champions here.

WE LISTEN, THE COMMUNITY LEADS: OUR NEW ONLINE MOBILIZATION TRAINING

We continually strive to be an organization whose community leads us in the development of new programs and services. This March, we piloted an exciting new Online Mobilization Workshop Series with a small cohort of Voices of Our Future training graduates and our newest Community Champions. The creation of this training was a direct result from last year's community survey, as well as the many requests we have received directly from community members to expand our training. The series comprised of Building and Creating Content, Facilitating Online Discussions (and how they lead to offline facilitation), and Resources: internal-to-self and network resources utilization (resource asset mapping).
