The wonderful world of web 2.0

Web 2.0 offer a myriad of opportunities which include powerful tools for citizen journalists. An example of an exciting web 2.0 is the World Pulse Journal. The availability of the various networking opportunities and ease of access is what makes the effect of web 2.0 platforms and its associated applications extremely powerful. I find this very exciting because as an activist, I see a great potential for the use of these tools to cause positive change. The ease of finding multiple information sources makes it easy for me as an activist to increase and polish my skills and be an effective communicator among my peers.
Networking between organization and individuals who are interested in similar causes is a wonderful example of the applicability of web 2.0 platforms, where people can be informed and aware of ways where they can help and effect change. Connecting women worldwide who share similar issues, concerns and interests in solving them can come together to beautifully display a multicultural perspective and understanding of the problem they face. For example, women in America can learn about the harmful effects of cultural stigmas with regards to female genital mutilation (FGM), where as a woman in Sudan can learn how rape stigmas follow women everywhere, even in America. When women come together through web 2.0 applications, and offer their perspectives and share their stories, they become empowered and fired up for change. This serves as a powerful tool for the global women's empowerment movement.
The tools offered by web 2.0 are empowering for me because they inspire me to use them in ways I have never though imaginable. I can use twitter for example to tell stories of how the government in Sudan is using systematic sexual violence against women to use the stigma and shame weapon against them in order to cripple dissent. I can connect to people around the world who find these actions despicable and want to change the situation. A web 2.0 offer room for collaboration and connects people together. World Pulse is a testimony to the power of web 2.0
