> Crowder-Messersmith Conservation Fund for local Projects in Developing Countries

The grants provide seed money to projects that have not attracted major support from other sources. Applicants: 1) must be based outside the US or other developed country and include local population. United States researchers planning work in foreign countries must have at least one local collaborator and consider how the project will benefit the local communities. Preference is given to applicants who have a record of prior conservation action relevant to the proposed project; 2) must submit projects that have lasting significance to local residents, protect threatened or endangered species or habitats, and must have public education component. Preference is given to projects that will benefit human, plant and animal communities of a particular habitat in an ecologically sustainable manner.

> Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF) Grants for Conservation Projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America

The Fund's mission is to support small, preferably local initiatives towards the conservation and wise use of nature and our natural resource base. Effectively our Fund aims to help save critically endangered flora and fauna. The Fund primarily focuses on work undertaken by organizations located in the Fund's focal regions. Preferably, our funding goes to organizations from these regions, sometimes in partnership with parties in Europe or North America. The Fund prefers to act as a catalyzer of larger initiatives, and link its project support as much as possible to larger themes and organizations. Applications must: 1) demonstrate clarity and urgency of the conservation case; 2) be made for direct contribution to the utilization and development of local capacity; 3) show the mid and long term sustainability of the results of the project i.e. how will the results be sustained once the PBN Funding will have been fully used; 4) must be written in English language.

> Foundation Ensemble Grant Sustainable Technologies

It supports field projects in sustainable development and conservation. The Foundation’s focus areas are sustainable agriculture, sustainable fishing, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable technologies. The eligible countries for projects are Cambodia, Ecuador, Laos, Mozambique, and Peru. For projects in biodiversity conservation and sustainable fishing activities can also be undertaken in the coastal areas of Mauritania, Senegal, and Gambia - for year 2015. Grants are for two to four years. Grants cannot be over 50% of a project's total budget. Eligibility – Applicants must: 1) be a NGO that has been in existence for at least three (full) years and has an annual budget of at least € 500 000; 2) submit a proposal written in French or in English; 3) submit a project that corresponds to the Foundation’s mission: a) it is driven by the demands and needs of the local populations; b) it aims to bring concrete and sustainable improvements to the target communities’ living conditions (social and economic impacts) while protecting and/or rehabilitating the environment (environmental impacts).

> Supporting the Government of Ethiopia: Developing pipeline programme and investment strategy to access funds from the Green Climate Fund

The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) is searching a supplier who can manage to do the following two tasks to support Government of Ethiopia (GoE): a) to develop a climate investment strategy that is aligned to the country’s second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) which is in progress; b) to support the GoE to develop a large-scale pipeline of Climate Compatible Development (CCD) projects and programmes. Applicants should have the following expertise: 1) Excellent understanding of programme proposal development for financing from international sources; 2) Experience of supporting countries with proposal development; 3) Experience of assessing the quality and impact of CCD projects, in order to identify suitable projects to include in the future programme; 4) Excellent understanding of the development and climate change policy and project landscape in Ethiopia; 5) Existing relations with the MOFED, MEF and sector ministries that are key to the implementation of the CRGE strategy, with access to all relevant departments and trusted with key internal documents; 6) Significant experience in developing relevant investment strategies; 7) Knowledge of the GCF’s priorities and key result areas; 8) An understanding of the environmental and social safeguards policy in Ethiopia and for the GCF; 9) Fluency in the local Amharic language to be able to translate key documents to be submitted to the GCF.

The DWCF grants program provides financial support for the study of wildlife, the protection of habitats and the development of community conservation and education programs in critical ecosystems around the world. Grant requests should be made for holistic programs addressing a significant conservation need (or projects that are part of a program) which reflect education and community engagement; sustainable development programs directly connected to protecting species and habitat; and scientific field studies (in-situ) on species and habitats. The Fund also seeks to support projects that are in areas where Disney has a significant business presence - Alaska, Australia, California, the Caribbean, China, Europe, Florida, Hawaii (and North America in general), Indonesia, Latin America.

> Journal of Urban Health (JUH) – Call for Papers: Police Brutality as a Public Health Issue

Though violence has long been considered a public health issue, police brutality has remained largely outside the purview of public health. Few empirical studies have examined its consequences for the public’s health or tested interventions to reduce its frequency or toll. The purposes of this special section of the JUH are to foster and gather together cutting-edge conceptual and empirical work and pedagogy about police brutality in urban areas as a public health issue, and develop and disseminate related interventions. > Global Water Alliance (GWA ) Competition for the 7th World Water Forum

GWA would like to invite students and young professionals, the future leaders of the world, to participate in the first Gender & WASH GWA Student Competition. Participants are encouraged to showcase and/or propose projects in gender and WASH in the form of papers, journals and videos, with special emphasis on innovation, scalability and sustainability at local communities. The competition will allow participants to focus much needed attention on this topic, exchange knowledge and ideas, and learn from international experts. This is an opportunity for future leaders to spearhead innovative solutions for gender and water issues on a global scale, as the winners of the competition will be invited to present their work at the Citizen’s Forum of the 7th World Water Forum. This competition is open to all students currently enrolled in an academic institute and recent graduates (within two years) from similar schools. Participants from all over the world are welcome.

> Comparing Children’s Media Around the World: Policies, Texts and Audiences (September 4; London, UK)

Where in the world are children best served by media available to them, and who judges the meaning of ‘best’? In today’s multiplatform environment, where children’s use of individualised social media challenges the status of professional players, the calls for quality, representation and diversity persist. Yet opinions divide over the levels of regulation and intervention required to improve media provision for children, and over the most urgently needed improvements. We welcome papers and pre-constituted panels from scholars and media practitioners that engage critically with children’s media in different countries.

> SWITCH Asia II: Europe Aid for Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production

The goal of the programme is to promote economic prosperity and help reduce poverty in Asia by encouraging a sustainable growth with low environmental impact from industries and consumers, in line with international environmental agreements and processes. More specifically it aims to promote sustainable products, processes, services and consumption patterns in Asia by improving cooperation with European retailers, producer and consumer organizations and the public sector. The grant support will be 50-80% of the total eligible costs of the action. It can raise up to 90% if the action takes place in least developed countries (LDCs). Applicants are particularly encouraged to implement projects in LDCs. The planned duration of an action may not be lower than 36 nor exceed 48 months.

> Integrating Research & Practice - five related special tracks at WMSCI 2015 - 19th World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics (July 12 - 15; Orlando, Florida, USA)

The five different tracks represent different ways, approaches, and/or methodologies that showed to be effective in the Integration of Research and Practice. What they have in common is their proven effectiveness in: 1) making adequate translating between disciplinary/technical terms and concept into everyday language; 2) appropriately relating quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. > Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development (PAEGC)

The objective of the PAEGC is to support new and sustainable approaches to accelerate the development and deployment of Clean Energy Solutions (CES) for increasing agriculture productivity and/or value in developing countries. Such solutions are those that integrate clean energy technologies and innovative business models to: (i) Enhance agricultural yields/productivity; (ii) Decrease post-harvest loss; (iii) Improve farmer and agribusiness income generating opportunities and revenues; and/or (iv) Increase energy efficiency and associated savings within the operations of farms and agribusinesses - while stimulating low carbon economic growth within the agriculture sector of developing countries. Applicants from any category of organization or institution, US or non-US, are welcome to apply. Specific categories of organizations and institutions and entrepreneurs that are welcome to respond include, but are not limited to: educational, industrial, and not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, faith-based, foundations, academic institutions, civic groups, regional organizations, vendors, start-ups, and project developers. Two Kosmos Seed Grants of $2500 each will be awarded in early 2015 to individuals or organizations that are working to advance ‘transformation in harmony with all Life’.

The microgrants program, intended to be ongoing, is being developed in recognition that social change often begins with small acts in out-of-the-way places, by people working at the edge of transformation. It will be a handbook for researchers and technical professionals from a wide variety of related fields who need to refresh their knowledge of the recent state of the art and acquire a well-balanced in-depth and broad know-how of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies and applications. The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation is a joint international institution of the European Union (EU) and African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States. Its mission is to advance food and nutritional security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management in ACP countries. It provides access to information and knowledge, facilitates policy dialogue and strengthens the capacity of agricultural and rural development institutions and communities. The objective of this grant is to advance agricultural entrepreneurship and ICT innovations by young people. It will support youth capacity building and entrepreneurship in ICT for agriculture (ICT4Ag) and promote youth employment opportunities. Proposals can be submitted in the following two categories: 1) Strengthening youth engagement and entrepreneurship in strategic food commodity value chains; 2) Implementing the \"AgriHack Talent\" programme at national or regional level. This 5th call for applications from the European Journalism Centre, running under Innovation in Development Reporting (IDR) Grant Programme, aims to advance creative reporting approaches, thus enabling a better coverage of international development issues. Eligibility: 1) Projects that target audiences in one or more of the eligible nine European countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, UK); 2) Journalists and media outlets not based in the mentioned countries, as well as freelancers, are only eligible to apply as cooperation partners of admissible organizations; 3) Projects are required to address by theme, style, and presentation the general public, or large audience segments, or must effectively leverage important multipliers. > Leland International Hunger Fellows Program

This Program is a unique two-year international fellowship administered by the Congressional Hunger Center (CHC). Its mission is to develop leaders committed to finding lasting solutions to hunger and poverty worldwide through both direct programming and good policies. Leland Fellows are given the opportunity to develop new skills while actively working to alleviate hunger and poverty. During each two-year fellowship cycle, 12-15 Fellows are placed with international development organizations that include international and local NGOs, U.S. government agencies and multilateral organizations. Fellows work on a variety of food security issues, such as agricultural development, nutrition, natural resource management, agribusiness development and women’s empowerment. The program begins with a one-year field placement in a developing country in Asia, Africa, or Latin America. Fellows spend the second year doing policy work, usually at the headquarters of the organization they served in the field year. Applicants must apply to a specific placement rather than to the fellowship itself.

It aims to catalyze private-sector investment into early-stage enterprises and identify innovations that help entrepreneurs bridge the pioneer gap – thus unlocking the potential of thousands of promising enterprises around the world. PACE aims to work at the intermediary level by engaging incubators, accelerators, investors, and others with incubation models that identify, mentor, grow, or fund early stage enterprises. PACE is focused on entrepreneurship broadly and seeks to work with a wide array of early stage enterprises, including social enterprises. PACE is focused on incubation models that support early stage enterprises that are post idea, post revenue, but not yet profitable, and are in the process of developing or refining a business model that will lead to high growth and financial sustainability. USAID is interested in supporting organizations and models that can clearly articulate how they anticipate becoming financially sustainable, and intend to be on the path towards financial sustainability by the time the partnership with USAID has ended. We encourage coalitions of organizations to develop concepts that draw on different strengths and core capabilities of each organization. Its aim is to help business-oriented initiatives that address challenges in nutrition, water, or rural development, to scale-up or be replicated. Through the prize, we reward initiatives that reflect the spirit of Creating Shared Value, an approach any organisation can take to create economic returns by developing solutions to societal problems. We look for innovative projects, programmes or businesses that have already been tested as a pilot or small scale, have demonstrated high social and environmental impact, and need support to become commercially viable. There are three categories of funding: 1) Rural Development: sustainable agriculture, development of local value chains and extension services etc.; 2) Water: improving access to clean water; protection and conservation of water resources: water, sanitation and hygiene etc.; 3) Nutrition: improving access to food; food fortification and technology; nutrition education programmes etc. Entities may reside in any country in the world and cover programmes implemented in low, middle and high-income countries that benefit underserved parts of the community.
