SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Sustainable development is a cross between ecology and economics. For a growing number of decision-makers and those working in the social sector, sustainable development is seen as a future course of action to unite economic development and social equilibrium. The concept refers to an economic process that improves the living conditions of current populations without threatening the conditions of future populations. When we extract resources like petroleum, coal, and natural gas and pollute the biosphere, we pass on problems to future generations.
In 1987, sustainable development was given its definitive name by the World Commission on Environment and Development presided over by BRUNDTLAND. The Commission defined sustainable development as development which meets the needs of the current population without compromising the possibility of future populations to meet their needs.
In June 1992, the United Nations organized the first Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Up until the Rio de Janeiro conference, sustainable development focused on two areas:
- the environment and
- development.
In the late 1990s, the triad of economy, social issues, and environment was established as an interdependent foundation when it was sanctioned by the World Summit on Sustainable Development. This refers to economic development, social development, and environmental protection. Climate change has given planetary scope to the concept.

ADVANTAGES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Sustainable development must be applied at every level of action from the state to the individual including businesses and communities.
Local communities play a key role in the adoption of sustainable development because they are entities that operate and maintain economic, social, and environmental infrastructures. They also define local orientation and legislation and plan their area's development.
Those working in development have largely accepted the concept of sustainable development for several decades now, a concept that makes it possible to go beyond sector-specific approaches to planning and to have an approach that is more compatible with the real lives of the populations. Awareness of economics, social issues, and the environment affects the essential elements of people's lives by considering social issues as the base for development, economics as the means for development, and the environment as the conditions for development.
The main advantage of sustainable development is that IT MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE CURRENT POPULATION WITHOUT JEOPARDIZING THE ABILITY OF FUTURE POPULATIONS TO MEET THEIR NEEDS.
