Learning to use Web 2.0 for good

I would say that the most exciting thing about Web 2.0 is the fact that we can not only share, but learn with others. Everyday, when I realise how powerful is to be wired to like-minded people that live 150,000 kms away, I also realise that this is a unique tool that can help us to raise our voices and empower each other.

Information goes faster than ever, and that can save a life. I've experienced first hand moments of distress, where I was able to help a friend by chatting on Skype. As simple as it sounds, when I think about the Arab Spring movement, I cannot but be grateful for having such means to connect and cooperate. Personally, I believe that Web 2.0 has given cooperation a new, better meaning.

Often, we are forgetful about how much we can do with so little. In this case, a simple e-mail, a blog post, or a facebook share are small gestures that can help to spread a powerful message. That's why I'm thankful for the chance I had when joining this group, so I could learn more about how to empower other people and myself. This will be a great opportunity to enhance my work as a human rights activist and I'm sure I will make the best out of it.
