Connected

What if a woman in Kenya could reach out, be in the same room and talk to a woman in Moscow, would it make a difference? Prior to Web 2.0 this would have been either a futile or expensive venture. But now it’s possible. I read a journal post by one of the women in World Pulse and she talked of other women “being her passport.” Through other women she has travelled the globe and learnt more than she would ever have without the internet. And so, what excites me the most about the Web is the power of connection, and the dialogues that create, especially those dialogues that lead to diverse collaborations. Through the connections, the Web solves the problem of isolation and strengthens the voice of the women’s movement. Together we can share the problems we solve, share creative ideas on how to solve those problems, share resources. We can share in a way that engages our critical thinking and does not see us as people with problems to be solved, but with potential to inspire. I look forward to learning from other women, all over the globe, in places that I may never physically go. And who knows, what power that connection will bring?!
