WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THE ONLY ANSWER

It is a known fact that the development of Africa and Nigeria inclusive depends on given the women a say and participation in the leadership. If the women lacks information, innovations and economic power, there is no way they could have a say and their oppression will continue. Women empowerment is a way to promotes gender equality, upholds basic human rights and ensure human development. When women have access to happenings around the world and how to go about innovations in their community and they are able to stand on their feet economically, they will be able to stand up and challenge the power pinning them down from contributing their own quota to the development of their world. There are only 5% rural women and who have the knowledge of web 2.0. in Nigeria. if this situation continues, these categories of people that is 70% of the population of women in the country will continue to live their lives in the dark without the knowledge of what is going on around them.
Poor and unskilled women are in many respects at a great disadvantage and so there must be a way to address these issues to put a stop to women discriminations and exploitations. WOMEN INSPIRATION CENTER is committed to responding to the concerns of women in our community. We moved from the border of our homes to care for the community, we mobilizes women, introduces change in notion of gender and in women behavior. We give people information on things they don't know and need to know about. We rebel against injustice and pointed to the need for basic services in the community. Women Inspiration Center for now focuses on out reach program that does not need an actual building to happen. This is the first priority as it will build awareness in our surrounding area and the Center as a resource for women and girls. This is to test out various strategies of reaching our intended audience and to be aware of their actual wants and needs.
On the 26th and 28th of February, 2010, I had a workshop with some women in the community on "Creating Your Life The Way You Want It". These are the women who will be joining me to move from villages to villages to empower other women. With the same participants of this workshop, i will be giving talk to about 60 women on the 17th of March 2010 creating awareness and understanding of women vulnerabilities to discrimination, violence, exploitation and abuse to commemorate the 100th anniversary of International Women Day.
When the building of the center is ready, there would be a cybercafé in the center for “women only” to enable them to be able to learn web 2.0 and to have access to internet. The few cybercafé around are already taking over by the “yahoo boys” these are the boys who spam on the internet. They can be so unruly and dangerous and so women don’t feel safe visiting those cybercafé for fear of being attacked or molested. There would also be a place for young adults to learn vocation in the center. The young adults drop out have become a social problem in the community for their lack of skilled work which is exposing them to sexual exploitation and trafficking. They could learn sewing, cosmetology and hair dressing after which the could work for two years in the center to safe some money couple with the assistance from the center to start their own business. There would also be recreation activities in the center for women to have a common place of relaxation where they could share their struggle and strength with one another. This will provide a way of encouraging themselves and be able to present a unified voice in promoting their rights in the community.
