VOF WEEK 3 (THE BLOG - MY LIFE IN 30 MINUTES)

My first real encounter with computers was when I joined high school. I was 13 years old. Technology has come a long way since then. There is now a computer in every house, every office, every pocket! One would think that with all the advances we have made, accessing the net would be very easy. It is not. I have found that my greatest challenge is time. Most often than not, life gets in the way of living. My day is usually packed with so many activities that I barely have time for myself. I consider blogging, ‘me’ time. I work from 8-6 on most days. I barely have time to grab a bite, let alone access the nearest cyber café. But I have managed to crave out at least 30 minutes in my day, for some personal time. Of course the fact that my internet access is through a cyber and not a home personal computer has also been a great challenge. There is the hustle of getting there before they close ( at 8pm), the surfing fee ( most times you come to the end of my pay cheque while there is still most of the month left!!) The advent of portable modems has however helped address this issue. What is left now is for me to include in my budget:

  • a laptop,
  • modem
  • and the monthly access fee

.
Nevertheless, these are the least of my problems. The greatest challenge I have faced is myself. It does not matter how much time or money I have, I need to have the heart, the commitment to do what I have to do. I have to remind myself everyday that it is note enough to just live. What do I have to show for my life? What have I made of the opportunities that I have been given? Have I made a difference in somebody else’s life? Given another person, hope or simply an opportunity to touch somebody else? When I remember that I too can make a difference with my smallest of actions, then whatever sacrifices I have to make are worth it.
