Using Technology to Connect Volunteers & Organizations

A month ago a group of us, young women, wanted to visit a Children's Home that especially hosted young teenage girls that required some basic commodities like sanitary pads. We searched the internet for any Children's Home in our locality Nairobi,Kenya with those specific needs but unfortunately we could not find much information. From this experience i noted a gap in information availability for those willing to give volunteer and specific donations in their neighborhoods, and hence the idea of Idonate.co.ke was born.

Idonate is a web platform that I am working on with a group of friends to bring together organizations and volunteers together. Having a strong background in web development, i felt that i can use my skills as a young woman in ICT to give back to the society by developing this platform. Idonate is on its initial development phase, data population as well as a strong campaign to inform people that the website that has these rich information exists.

Demographics indicate that Women and Children are most likely affected by poverty and discrimination and you will find that many Non Governmental Organizations in Kenya target these groups. If we had a one stop place where someone is able to retrieve such information, these organizations would not need to go far to get volunteers and donors.

The concept is based on the idea that most people especially the youth do not have the money to give to the less fortunate but have the time and strength and just need information on who needs these services.

I believe that time given can make a bigger impact than a penny given.
