  • Isang Bata Isang Tasa (One Child One Cup)

The 10th year celebration and feeding activity of Isang Bata Isang Tasa will be combined with the promotion of the Convention on the Rights of the Child through the Laura Vicuna Foundation, a leading organization that builds the capacities of children in need of special protection through basic education and development. So aside from the children under the age of 5, their parents will be involved in the celebration hoping that the event would enrich their understanding of the rights of their children and on how to protect them from the abuses in the homes and the society.

Isang Bata Isang Tasa started as a way for our family to give back to our neighbors in San Pedro. Often held in January to combine most of our birthdays and to the start the New Year positively. I am lucky to have friends from many walks of life that share their blessings to make the days event memorable each year, and I am hoping more will join in as we prepare for the next coming years making this activity more sustainable for children that need most of our help particular to nutrition.

God has been good to us – myself, my family and friends, so the little we can share with our neighbors and the smiles on the child's faces is more than enough gift one can ask for one's birthday.  That has been my gift in the last 9 years, and this year I am giving them more to take home more than food and gifts.

Exciting plans are being ready for the coming years. I hope you will continue to share your blessing with us and stay with us until we see healthy children born and raised year after year.

Celebrate with us!

Hello Rahmana :)

Thank you for your comment. For your question, I have to say you maybe misunderstood the purpose of the yearly activity -- the target for the feeding activities are children under the age of 5 and for 2017 I will include parents to learn more about the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The local schools here have regular feeding program once they enter kindergarten at 6 y/o reason I don't target them.

Children under the age of 5 are the crucial age for physical, social and mental development, preparing them when they start school and interaction with other children. Early detection is essential in identifying children's diseases or conditions such as delayed development that is also one of the reasons I target this age bracket.

Every year I try to add activities, and for this year we will teach parents if they don't already know the rights of the children. Normally the foundation goes to different schools and community talking directly to older children on protection and how to prevent abuses from home and community, but in my case, since I am targeting very young children I will let them deal with the parents, guardians and caregivers.

I hope that answers your question. If you want to discuss more, I am happy to oblige.
