Plastics in developing countries

We often hear of many problems in developing countries, but we do not hear enough about the contributors to the problems, and or solutions. We are aware of the damage plastics have to the environment. In developed countries we have recycling where these can be reused, or properly disposed of, we have regulations that manufactures have to comply with. In many developing nations, all these safety and regulatory requirements, plus good governance, and mass education is not there. Large corporations both internal and external take advantage of these conditions, to make large profits without having to protect the environment, or the lives of their consumers.

Coca Cola is a case in point, the company is bottling, and packagingtheir drinks all over Africa and making massive profits, in thisprocesses the water systems are damaged, the health of the public is compromised, and the land is littered with plastics that are not recycled.

This environmental damage will span generations to come. As women of the world, how can we hold these companies that seek countries with weak or zero regulations to set up shop to clean up and educated the masses in the choices they are making.

How to Get Involved

Mass education, corporate responsibility.
