THE DEPARTED

Once upon a time there lived
Someone with respect and honour
Someone with wits and valour
Yes! Some one with hopes and prospects

Yesterday they blossom with life
They roam about cheerfully
They were part of us
They seem to have everlasting life

Some very rich and callous
Some poor and timid
Some good tempered and comely
While some uphold the world is at their feet

They were cherished and loved
They were breadwinners and dependents
Some were lonely and disliked
Yet their existence was part of life

Like a shadow death creeps in
Its cruel hands snatches
Targeting the best and strong holds
Usually those closest to our hearts

With disbelief we grieve of the loss
When it does strikes, we find ourselves in a trance
Gradually the reality and impact is felt
Then we ponder where they go from here.
