From a vegetable seller to a graduate!

Hello sisters,

I am from one of the remote parts of Kenya. As a young girl, i was brough up in a family of eleven children and poverty is what we knew and still know how best to define.Due to the extreme poverty in our home, basic needs were hard to aquire and this almost compromised my education.

I dropped out from school due to lack of school fee. After being married for seven years and with four children,i was still thirsty for education and through spornsorship of a Non Govermental Organisation in our village,I went back to high school where i studied for two years and sat for national exams.I passed very well an got government sponsorship to a public university.

Throughout my life,I have been very keen on matters relating to girl child education especially girls from poor families. This is because i fully understand the context of poverty and how being poor can shutter a dream!I know how early marriage can lead to social abuse by virtue of not knowing your rights and value.I therefore have been a mentor on lifeskills to young girls with an aim of making them understand their values in the community and making informed choices.

I am looking forward to seeing a just society where the gap bertween the rich and the poor is minimal, where value for girl child and women is appreciated and human beings are equally treated irrespective of their religion, gender or colour.
