I would just like to bring your attention to something you might find interesting.

Al – Jazeera broadcast channel is starting a new kind of TV show that engages online audience in an unconventional way. It’s called “AJ STREAM” aka AL-Jazeera Stream. If you have AJ in your country, that’s great but if you don’t you can still participate via online and watch the show on LiveStation.

So what is AJ stream and why you might like to participate?

According to them “The core idea of The Stream is that it’s not scripted in the ordinary way. It’s a script- less show with the producers making extensive use of tweets, Facebook wall posts, YouTube videos, blogs from their most engaged viewers and the web at large. During the course of the show, they’ll read tweets and updates (and display them on-screen) as they come up. They’re also planning on interviewing guests via Skype”
So it’s like a social media interaction on a live TV show. But the whole idea will not be revealed until the show airs on May! The show will be repeated thrice a day with updated tweets/fb/youtube info as they come in throughout the day about a story.

I signed up for their first ever live editorial meeting with 42 others across the globe! It was pretty exciting to participate in the meeting plus watch it via Ustream. If you have a good connection, that would be great! I suggested a story idea via twitter (an issue highlighted in one of your piece) and my tweet was included in their story ;- ) they alert you via twitter or fb if you’re suggestion/views were quoted.

They would love to have story suggestions and you can put forward story links that you have covered. Social media is full of state and non-state agents spreading propaganda – it’s a battle ground of opinions, with so much half-baked stories that I get to read online! I think it’s a good opportunity for us as citizen journalist to push forward stories that we write about. Each of you has no idea how much I have learned in these few months. The kind of stories I read about your communities online is written from a very sensationalized or shallow angle. It’s a privilege to read something so refreshing from each one of you!

Do have a look and get in touch with them – they reply most FB, twitter posts ;- ) ...Keep interacting even if they don’t reply at first ;- )

They are also looking for video messages for the promo of the show– all you have to do is say your name, and your place ( does not have to be your real name ) and record a short video. Oh at the end you have to say “The Stream”! This is just a promo video – anyone can participate.
