"2010 VOF Week 2", I Can Speak Myself! - Fatima Zafar

World Pulse is a media enterprise covering global issues through the eyes of women. This online community is dedicated to listening to and broadcasting the unheard voices and innovative solutions of women worldwide. Pulse Wire is a thriving community of grassroots women leaders and supporters of women’s initiatives from over 150 countries.

My journey begins…

I am an active member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) – Women Network that is the global movement against gun violence. I coordinated its Global Week on Disarming Domestic Violence 2009 in Pakistan and played an active role in raising awareness among policymakers, the public, and the media about the global threat to human rights and human security (especially women rights and security) caused by small arms. On its part, I also conducted Survey on Disarm Domestic Violence June 2009.

Ms Sarah Masters (Interim Director & Women's Network Coordinator-IANSA) shared an email with me having a call to be the part of this online community. Just one click to its link led me to this online community and inspired me to apply for Voices of Our Future 2010. I joined this group because now I can connect with women worldwide, speak for myself on the issues that affect me most, I can share my story with the world and increase visibility and support for my projects or organization. I cannot only easily collaborate with other thought leaders on urgent issues but also having an opportunity to become an active part of the global women’s movement.

The most inspiring thing is its vision, values, history, story and especially its soul. When I was going through by this, I was surprised and joyous to read to the lines written in black and white:

One voice at a time, millions of voices strong

World Pulse is a platform for change for women, proudly I can say it is a platform for me to express.

Today, women from 170 countries use World Pulse to speak out and connect, using Internet cafés, and mobile phones from rural villages to urban cities, from Asia to Europe and from kitchen table to a global network. By networking on our site, women are finding jobs, starting new programs and businesses, launching women-only cyber cafés, and finding international speaking opportunities that are changing their lives and lifting their communities.

I always wanted and looking for a network where I can write my stories, share my ideas and can work out for the empowerment of thousands and thousands of women around me and around the world. World Pulse is luckily provided me a platform. It is now here to broadcast my voice around the globe. The journey has begun now…!
