Today, Kenya joins the rest of the world in marking World Water Day. There is little to celebrate when dry taps decorate households, women and children spend hours under the hot sun, walking for long distances and wearing out their backs and heads used to load the scarce commodity from unsafe water collection points. It is needless to say that women are the wort hit by the acute water shortage. They are in charge of the household where water use in unavoidable both for sanitation and human consumption. Kenya has been ranked among the countries worst hit by the acute water shortage. Water Minister, Charity Ngilu today said her ministry is aware of this crisis and is acting on it by improving water supply infrastructure. however the citizens are crying foul claiming that those efforts are hardly felt.
