Web 2.0

What most excites you about Web 2.0; What solutions you think Web 2.0 brings to the global women's empowerment movement; How is it already, or how will it be empowering for you?

I am most excited about the ability of Web 2.0 to empower women all around the world and allow their voices to be, heard absolutely amazes me. Woman’s voices have long been silenced by society and Web 2.0 permits women to share their opinions. People from all walks of life get the opportunity to share and exchange ideas and stories through Web 2.0 which is why I consider it one of the greatest tools to help women all over the world overcome issues facing them in their daily lives. Many women, especially those in third world countries are severely disconnected from today’s world due to lack of availability of technology and adherence of certain cultural norms that prevent them from be heard. Web 2.0 has the ability to provide hope for these women and connect them to the rest of the world. It empowers women to take charge and use their voices in many ways that have not been possible before. It can a be a tool to help these women educate their children and each other so they can affect change in their lives as well as the lives of those who live with and around them. It connects women from different cultures and different parts of the world which allows them to share and exchange stories and experiences. These global connections allow women to help each other build communities and empower each other to deal with the issues facing them or their communities. It has and will continue to be empowering for me by permitting me to get to know women around the world and learn from them. Coming from a country where growing up I was always told to lower my gaze and keep my mouth closed, it took time for me to conjure up the courage to put my thoughts and feelings into words. To my surprise, I felt free and strong because I no longer feared the outcome of speaking my thoughts and beliefs. I wish to pass that on to any woman who may be in the same predicament as I once was and that is empowering for me.
