PulseWire Tip: Using Google Translate

Our community is represented by over 150 nationalities and hundreds of languages, making communication in our native tongues a bit tricky. Since PulseWire was created in 2007, the community has been swelling with voices almost solely in the English language. And logistically, this has been the best way for us to communicate globally, across borders and through language barriers.

However, our vision for the future is a community filled with voices speaking not only English, but also French, Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, Urdu, Portuguese, Tagalog, Mandarin, Bengali, Yoruba, and many more!

World Pulse is committed to offering top translation applications as soon as we possibly can. The most promising of these, however, are not yet available to the public.

In the meantime, we suggest you try out Google Translate which provides an approximate translation of the most popular languages. You can find the translate feature located next to the search bar in the top right corner of every PulseWire page. Choose the language you wish to translate the page to (ex. English to French, or Arabic to English) and viola! If you don't see your language posted here, please let me know and we can try to add it to the list.

There are countless ways you can help us create a thriving global community that is receptive to everyone's needs. Here are just a few of our ideas... If you have one of your own to add, please post it as a comment below.

• Be patient and helpful in your online communications. Show respect for the differences and difficulties that can arise due to language barriers.




• Tag content in more than one language to make it available to a wider audience.




• If you are multilingual, offer your expertise as a translator on Resource ExChange and translate your own content when possible.




• Start a PulseWire group for your language to have more in depth discussions with native speakers or learners of your language. Perhaps some members can volunteer to translate journals to share with the whole PulseWire community.
