Stolen Virginity

Disclaimer: I don't think it is acceptable to discuss someone else's sex life... unless they write about it in a book.

I've read bits and pieces of Bristol Palin's "stolen virginity" story. Based on what I've read, it seems that Bristol says she was drinking the night she lost her virginity to Levi and the act happened against her wishes. I don't know if that is true or even if I am accurately retelling the story. Assuming that I am, there is a huge issue here. "Against your wishes" is rape - an illegal act that should be reported.

Bristol is a role model for young girls. She has chosen that role and with that role comes a responsibility to, well, act responsible. By ignoring what Levi did or trying to call it something other than rape is sending the wrong message to girls. Her action also sends a message to young men that taking advantage of your drunk girlfriend is somehow acceptable. I'm not suggesting that Brisol is doing this on purpose and from what I've seen, she seems conflicted about the event. I am suggesting that she makes a decision: call it rape and show the teenagers that listen to her that there is no gray area to uninvited sex or don't continue as a role model of abstinence.
