Introducing myself and my journal: Two Hands for Freedom

About Me:
I am a recent graduate from Nyack College, with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, and a minor in Sociology and Psychology. At Nyack College I founded a student run organization called LoSTANDfound, which continues to raise awareness about human sex trafficking. I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and I faced poverty through out much of my childhood and adolescent years. Many of my friends have told me that I am different, and I am. Social problems interest me, mostly because of my Christian faith, but also because of my experiences in Trinidad. I am blessed and fortunate to be here in the United States of America because God used education and soccer as tools to help progress me through my life. I have committed myself to focusing on social issues such as human trafficking, poverty, women inequality, etc. for the rest of my life. I believe that education is very important to radically cause change in global social problems, but I also believe, that as a man, men have a great role to play, as do women. If we are to fight for equality and empowerment of women, we should do this hand in hand; woman and man. It is devastating that many men treat women inhumanly. Men should take responsibility for the problems that are done to women. However, I believe that it is of great importance, that as we focus on narrowing the gap of inequality between women and men, it is of great importance that we break the generational behaviors of men. This can be done by educating men about the hurt that they cause upon women, and also educating boys about the importance of respecting and treating girls fairly. I believe that in order for us to truly sustain freedom, we need to empower our women, but also engage our men.
