A woman’s world just got exciting, thanks to the digital space

Today’s world is evolving owing to the digital transformation that is making globalization a reality faster than anticipated. I mean, who needs a physical meet up with a mentor, business partner when the internet is making all that possible in a click of a button?

People are realizing their dreams on their gadgets. One click and you find the lifetime opportunity you’ve always dreamed about. Another moment you get invitation to a conference that is meant to be a game changer in your life. People running start ups get funders in the most unusual way, just by embracing the power of the internet.

For the philanthropies, all you need is post your offer on a web page and you receive massive applications from grant/sponsorship seekers.

In no time you find someone with similar interests as you, and you kick off partnership that would soon evolve to a business empire.

Isn’t this an ideal world where you do not need to get stuck in traffic jam and/or board a plane to meet your connections? This is the internet generation/era.

There are definitely risks associated with web based activities and this calls for vigilance; for instance being keen enough to spot suspicious links or malicious connections, changing passwords now and then, being ware of surroundings when handling your personal sensitive info like bank accounts and so forth.

You have a choice of what to get involved in on the internet.

World Pulse

We all have courses we dearly care about but sometimes have no proper avenue to establish our footing. And this is where a support groups come in handy. For women around the globe, one such enabler that I have come to embrace is World Pulse. Forever grateful to you Stella Paul for mentioning the platform in the course of our chats; I found a place to belong.

I was just a few months old in the diverse online community, logging in occasionally to motivate and show some love to women who had posted articles, leaving a comment and occasionally pressing the heart button. Then email pops up in my inbox asking whether I’d like to volunteer to introduce women in my locality to the social platform under the umbrella of Women and the Web Alliance. There are some opportunities I don’t think twice about so I jumped into this one, but I remember reminding Molly Gates (Women and the Web Alliance manager) that I was a newbie, just to exonerate myself in case my mission flopped. Hides*.

At the back of my mind rang the phrase, “challenge yourself by doing something for the first time – every now and then”. This was my challenge – so I set up a venue, send out invites, requested for attendance confirmation (you do not want to find yourself alone after all the preparation) and voila! The ladies turned up and were glad to discover another social platform that would add value to their growth endeavours.

At a time when there is a massive proliferation of multi-level marketing initiatives – statements like “Judy I hope this is not another network marketing thing” came across quite often. In a way I expected such, so I warded off the doubts effectively.

You see, with World Pulse you connect with women globally – to unite, share stories and resources,and grow together while creating impact. I’m glad to have reached close to 50 women in Nairobi, Kenya.

Thirst for knowledge

It is quite inspiring to see young people who are thirsty for knowledge and opportunities; one of the observations I made during the three World Pulse sessions. It is this zeal that opens up your unforeseen world.

That story that is deep down your chest and you have been itching to share yet haven’t found the best platform and an audience finds home at World Pulse. One of the women present was so glad to discover a platform where she could publish her articles about the environment.

Some were excited about being able to read and learn from the experiences and daily hacks of others living life in no extra ordinary way.

International Women’s Day (IWD)

We even got a chance to be part of the World Pulse Wave that was carried out globally on International Women’s Day -marked annually on March 8, which was encouraging women to embrace digital space – a gold mine of opportunities.
