Giving voice to women worldwide

Shifting from business sector to social sector almost three years back was a big decision in my life. Denying paid job and becoming a volunteer was one of the most difficult and challenging decisions that I have ever taken. My parents wanted me to join the family business when I was moving in the opposite direction to achieve my dreams. I had to struggle at different levels but nothing changed my mind to shift my focus. When my country was severely affected by armed conflict I decided to stay back and contribute to my nation when most of my friends flew to foreign land in search of better opportunities.

I started as a volunteer at Youth Telecenter and within few months was working as a Co-coordinator of the centre managing the programs and human resource. Soon after I joined Yatra, a youth led and managed organization, working on youth and environmental issues where within a year was elected as a Member Secretary. Initially transition from business to social sector seemed almost impossible but soon I realized that it was my passion not work which is why I enjoyed what I do daily. I have not been able to measure whether I have touched or changed lives of many people in a positive way but I am sure that I have been able to change lives of few.

Working with the women exploited sexually at massage parlors and dance bar in Kathmandu and being nominated as youth leader for youth forum in Asia Pacific Leadership Forum for HIV/AIDS and development has further motivated me to speak. I have been wearing many hats at the same time as of a leader, implementer, motivator, mentor, mentee, student, social change maker and a writer and has been successful in achieving those where I have laid my hands.

Being selected as one of the thirty emerging female leader for Voice of Future Programs of World Pulse and working as a facilitator with Nabuur increased my horizon to contribute from national to international level. Through World Pulse I have been able to connect to women like me trying to contribute and eager to share their stories with the world.

Writing has always been my passion and through my association with WP, I have been living my dreams to share my stories with the world. Likewise, being the member of working committee of Female Leadership Forum and building capacity of female youth under Association of Youth Organizations Nepal with 72 member organizations is another step to voice out women's issues and to empower them.

Leadership is not only the process of taking lead but uniting the team to achieve the goal. Team building is as necessary as leading the team in the right direction. We all come from different background and to hold them together is difficult as well as challenging. I have had the experience of working with people from different background both at national and international level along with reviving, uniting, building and leading the team to function effectively.

Life is a learning process and every second we are learning. The realization that we are learning leads us to adapt to the new techniques, ideas put forward by the people whether they come from developed or from the underdeveloped and developing countries. As the experience of every individual is different it is important that we provide space to each individual to put forward that thought. All the radical feminist, neo-liberal feminist, liberal feminist and women's movement will be wasted if we cannot accommodate the women at grass root level striving to live their life in a difficult and adverse situation. World Pulse has been giving platform to women from all walks of life and if provided with the opportunity to serve as a World Pulse Community Board Member, I will continue to bring women from different walks of lives and encourage them to speak as I firmly believe that sharing our stories is taking the lead and initiating change, as every women in this world is a change maker whether she leads her house, office, nation or world.
