deargirlsaboveme.com

During my surfing through facebook, I recently came across a page titled "dear girls above me" I went onto the website http://www.deargirlsaboveme.com/ and found probably one of the most disturbing invasions of privacy I have come across in a while. The backdrop for the website is there was this great, awesome, intelligent, kind man who has the horrible misfortune of having 2 girls move in the apartment above him. The author's exact words to describe his website (as seen on the website) are "Two annoying girls moved into the apartment above me.I'm forced to hear every dumb thing they say. These are my letters to them." He posts every thing he finds annoying that they say in a "Dear girls above me" format. Admittedly, some of the things that the WOMEN talk about is not that highly intellectual. The reason this website bothers me is because it is totally invading these two women's privacy. According to the website, they are oblivious to the fact that he is listening to their every conversation and putting it up on a website for the sole purpose of ridicule and judgement. He is listening to their private conversations (which include their sex lives and putting it out there for the whole world to know. This guy is a total douche bag. I do not care if he likes the women or not (he calls them girls, yet even more indication he does not show any respect for women) he has no right to eavesdrop and reiterate their conversations. How would he like it if someone did that to him? Invaded his privacy and ridiculed everything that came out of his mouth and shared it with thousands of people? The ironic part of all this is that he perceives the two women to be shallow. (They talk frequently about clothes and partying). But their "shallowness" is a direct by product of what society expects them to be. I mean after all, do not we give the message to women that they have to be designer fashionistas and always look their best and not be too smart because that is off putting to the men? So when women do fill these stereotypes men turn around and call them shallow and vain. We just cannot win can we? In our society we think it is totally ok to eavesdrop into people's personal lives and judge them for it, you know because we are all so perfect and never say or do anything stupid. Who is this guy to judge? I do not see him offering up what he says, or having the two women run a website with a perspective on his conversations. This site is totally wrong and people need to stop following it.
