Pakistan: There is no honour in killing

Love marriage is a choice not a crime. In Pakistan honour killing is a serious issue. Women with the fear of the families don’t tell the parents about the guy they like and adopt a way of court marriage. And after to save the so called family honour women are killed.

The story of a girl , who was in love with a guy but both knew that their families would not agree for their marriage. And they did the court marriage , and parents of boy accepted the girl and started living happily. After a few days girl mother came and ask the girl its ok come to your home no body will say you any thing. The boy was not agree but the girl went to her home. She was pregnant at that time and her mother with her sister husband burnt her alive because the honour of the family was brought to dishonour. It happened in a very modern city of Pakistan.

I did love marriage but the time i told to my parents and my parents were angry with me. But i came to my in laws family they welcomed me and after that my mother and my brother also accepted the marriage only this happen because my family was educated and i m living a happy life. They were angry but they did not torture me.

A social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch who was killed by her brother in the name of honour , even her parents had not any problem with the work she was doing. Even they were happy with their daughter. Her fault was that she did what she wanted to do.

In Pakistan honour killing is serious crime. About 500 women are killed each year at the hand of family members over perceived damage to honour. In most cases victim is woman and killer is relative who escape punishment by seeking forgiveness from family members. There were the laws but implementation was not there.

Recently the government as made new law , the new law mandates life imprisonment of honour killer even if the victim family members forgive the murderer. The women are always the victims. It happen in South East Asia where on the name of honour , dowry , giving birth to girls women are killed. Today we are in the 21st century but we are still strangled in the feudal customs. I hope this legislation will stop killing on the name of honour.
