Libration & Liberation - a poem

Libration: in astronomy, a slight rocking motion of the moon which allows 59% of the moon's surface to be visible from the earth.

On this first of this moon cycle
I ease the pain of this bloodflow
With a slow rocking
Back and forth, slowly
Back and forth, slowly

In this movement
My heart becomes more visible
I think of the bloodshed of others
Blood torn from women's bodies,
Torn by violence, within war;
Gendered violence, be it
Physical, mental, or sexual

The earth's visibility of my heart
Increases, and I give a moment of silence
...
This short moment, in which I thought
About women around the globe,
Women in my family, immediate,
Extended, and adopted
Women who I have no names for
Women who I know so much about
During that short moment, that already passed
More blood was spilled

Tonight, no matter when that occurs for you
Know that when you look at the moon
Fifty-nine percent will be visible
That fifty-nine percent is my love,
My thoughts, my tears, my soul
The remaining forty-one percent
Is my energy, resting, to fight
Resting, to fight alongside you
