Mentor Love Letter

Dear Sister,

Is there a space where you can sit daily surrounded by at least small glimpses of nature? It is afternoon in this desert city and I sit in the garden. One year ago only grass grew here. Now: lilies, basil, magenta petunias, spinach, kale, collards, beans, bell peppers, vincas, marigolds, chard, thyme, lantanas, and aloe swell above the earth. The wind mixes with violins and piano wafting from inside. I am built of these things with a mixture of poetry, a love of earth dirty hands and sweet aromas from the kitchen. I am a voice of the future because I dream that all women can sit in such a space of beauty and solitude and know themselves. If I can create this for myself in only a year, I smile at the thought of what you and I can create and expand upon simply by communing. I have many ideas about how to create a sustainable compound rooted in the US where women can create, heal, sing their lives, and collaborate. Together, we will create an environment that enriches, empowers, and educates women beyond our grasp. Perhaps while becoming a beacon of holistic living here, it will also fund scholarships for women internationally that will enable them to visit the compound, share themselves, and return home with education and skills to support their families and lead their communities. My hope for our time together is to manifest this vision into a reality.

In Peace,
Mei
