VOF Week 2 (Voice of Our Future: Dreaming for a Positive World)

I studied honours and masters in International Relations from Dhaka University. Therefore after working for a while here in Bangladesh with Amnesty International Bangladesh, Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit, various media organization including print and electronic media I came to realized to have more education from abroad. I tried and this time my destination was Department of Social work, Goteborg University. I completed an International Master Degree from there and came back to Bangladesh. No doubt I am one among the privileged women group of Bangladesh since more than half of total population can’t go to even school here! Still as an unmarried girl from Bangladesh I too had to take it as a challenge to go for higher studies to a distant land. My family had to be very strong for supporting such pursuit of their only daughter. I began to feel the heaviness of responsibility on my shoulders as soon as my flight left runway. I did my master thesis on Bangladeshi immigrant women living in Sweden. The findings of my research and being a woman from Bangladesh made me think that if could do something fruitful and effective for Bangladeshi Women! Advocacy, Communication and research are very important in learning and doing something effectively. Therefore beside my other activities I became member of Women for Women, Canada and from their website I came to know about the Voices of Our Future. Now it’s a new journey for me where at the end I will be able to speak for myself and my countries women. For sure, if I can speak loudly and constructively my voice will be heard through the “Voices of Our Future” and it will help me to fulfill my vision.
