Merci mes amies

We are beginning to be afraid to write on violence, because they just missed killing one of those who was helping raped women – Dr.MUKWEGE of PANZI. It was very hard. We need total security. What will happen with this ongoing daily violence especially within Bukavu town where day before yesterday, 12 women were raped at Shabunda and all the goods carried away. The population stays in darkness and has no hope of living. We want peace, nothing but peace.

Thank you my friends

Mumbalima,

I am so sorry to hear that you and other women are now afraid to speak out about the violence you are experiencing. The threats on Dr. Mukwege's life are indeed terrifying and speak to the urgency of the situation at hand. What can we do to help you feel safe in expressing yourself here?

I am with you, Kirsten

Dear Mumbalima, thank you for writing even though you are afraid. It is difficult to imagine being under that kind of threat. You have much courage. We talk about empowering women. Safety and Security is at the heart of empowerment- how can women be free until they are free from violence, free to speak out, free to walk down the street, free to help another woman? It is frustrating to not be able to do more. It seems so simple- the violence must stop, men and women treat each other with care and respect.. and yet this is so hard to make happen. My heart is with you, be safe.
