Ending the Violence

A woman will be buried on Saturday following her death from injuries sustained after she was beaten by her ex fiance. For the purpose of this posting, let me call her Anne.

Ann had been engaged to this man for a while and they had a child together. But the man broke off the engagement and decided to marry a woman his family had found for him in the village. Anne moved out of this guy's house with her child but refused to abandon the farm she and this man had cultivated while they were still engaged. Anne's argument was that she still had this guy's child to feed.

So, two weeks ago, this guy met Anne on the farm trying to harvest food for herself and her child. He beat her up mercilessly and sent her away. Out of fear, Anne said nothing and as it turns out, she was suffering from internal bleeding. She died some hours later.

The legal process in this country can be very slow if you don't have money. Right now, The man that sent Anne to her grave is moving around free. Her brothers have threatened to kill him.

The road to a free world for women is still very long. Let us put our hands and minds and resources to end violence against women.
