Child Marriages are real!

A few days ago, a man walked into my office with three girls. The girls were quite young looking and as I would soon find out, the oldest was 20 and the others 17. So this man tells me that these girls were married at age five and are now divorced.

"No way", I replied. "There is no way that stuff like that still happens in these modern times." Now I know better. Yes, way. Yes, stuff like this happens in these modern times. The stories told by these young ladies touched my heart to its core.

One said she was sent off to her husband at five years of age simple because her father was old and dying and could not believe he would not enjoy the bride price of any of his daughters. So she was sent of to this old man as his wife. At age five! Lucky for her, an NGO in the area called Empowerment fought for her liberation but by the time she was free she was already seventeen years old. Now she is twenty, barely two years younger than me and yet she has been married and divorced.

I want to tell their stories. I have been absent for quite a while now on the pulsewire scene, but I now say with certainty that I am back and with full force. Love you all
