Protect the Earth - say no to polyethylene. Today Georgia with the whole world celebrates International Earth Day. In connection with this day social group of Facebook in our country made a parade on Rustaveli Avenue, entitled “No to cellophane packages”. The action supports the Free Trade Union of teachers and scientists. The procession began at 13:00 at the subway station Rustaveli and finished in front of the Parliament. There was also thematic photo exhibition. The action drew the attention of the public and government on polyethylene as the danger of ecological catastrophe and encourage people to optimal using of polyethylene and not pollute the environment. Protesters made of wire a model of the globe, which is symbolically filled with plastic bags and bottles, to show everyone how catastrophic looks our Earth today. The action also encourages the Georgian businessmen to build a factory to create a paper and biological packages. The protesters want the government to legally recognize the above initiatives, increase tax on polythene, effectively purify the environment and start the processing of polyethylene. Join us!

Dear Anastasia,

Thank you for sharing news of the protests you took part in with fellow Georgians to demand responsible use of polyethylene. It saddens me each time I see a plastic bag (which are everywhere here in the United States... some people go through dozens each day) and know that it will live on this Earth much longer than me. We have to do something now, before it's too late and I applaud your actions of standing up to the government and big businesses and saying "No!"

Warm regards, Jade
