Gendercide Needs to Be Recognized as A Hate Crime

Dr. Diana Russell who coined the term 'Femicide' has been arguing for 40 years that the world needs to recognize the killing of females because of their gender as a lethal hate crime, just as it does the killing of people based on race, religion and ethnicity. Dr. Russell has been arguing this for 40 years, but in the 6 years that I have worked on the issue of female genocide in India, what I have realized is that there is no correlation between education and economics and the targeted elimination of girls and women. The crime against girls and women in India occurs across the board. In fact it gets worse statistically as you go up the ladder in education and economics! It is irrational and it is hate based and I say that as a personal witness to it. For all who keep harping on education I remind them of what Malcolm X said, "The black man with a Ph.D. is still a Nigger!" The worst is the mass killing of little girls under the age of 6 years, children who are defenseless and cannot protect themselves.
