16TH DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

Domestic violence -- also called intimate partner abuse, intimate partner violence, and domestic abuse -- takes many forms. Maltreatment that takes place in the context of any romantic relationship is abuse as described by the above specific terms. It therefore affects men, women, or teen girls and boys in relationships. Intimate partner violence may consist of one or more forms, including emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, or economic abuse and is defined as one person in an intimate relationship using any means to control the other

Society-sanctioned forms of violence against women include infibulations (fastening or buckling together, as in binding of feet, or of the female genitalia in an effort to render a person less able to walk or render unable to have sexual intercourse, respectively) and female genital cutting, also known as female circumcision.

Dolly foundation a non governmental organization working in the areas of health, education , agriculture , sustainable community livelihood . Women empowerment and advocacy cut across all it’s areas of work. Dolly foundation mark the 16th days of activism, which is a world celebration to organized seminar, radio talk show , distribution of gender based violence stickers to drivers and communities . The celebration was a two days event

On November 30th 2011, dolly foundation with partnership from WiLDAF Ghana educated the Fosu Methodist women fellowship about the various forms of gender based violence. This form of family violence also puts children at higher risk of having emotional problems and engaging in drug abuse. Given such risks, the presence of intimate partner abuse in a family should be an important consideration in child custody issues. Domestic violence also results in homicide as well. Victims who live in a household where weapons are present and drugs are used have a greater risk of being killed by their abuser. 

Dolly foundation and WiLDAF with funding support from STAR Ghana and Akpanya cleaning and construction , printed stickers and distributed them to drivers, individual as a educational materials to help educated people against gender
based violence.

Pastors and church elders were educated about gender based violence. Most women goes to the pastors to be prayed fro when they are leaving with an abusive men. Most women attribute the behavior of their spouses to be spiritual and do not seek legal support but rather run to the pastor for prayers. We used the day to educated pastor to be able to identify abusive relationship and advise women to seek for help when they report abusive partner to them. Pastors were advised not to not pray for the women but encourage them too to seek help

Student of Fosu training college were educated on violence in the schools. As teachers in the making , our organisation discuss forms of violence from teacher to student . Making the school a safe environment for schools pupils
