What Journalism Means to Me: Response to Module 1 Assignment
Jan 21, 2015
Story
My voice is unique, multilayered, persistent, unyielding, the voice of many.
I want to be a correspondent because in my community, there are many pent-up voices waiting to be heard, many untold dreams waiting to be realized, and many “tomorrows” in danger of disaster if action is not taken. I would like to be a window through which the world can look into my community and my community can look out into the world. I would like to empower changemakers with knowledge they need to mobilize them into action.
Honest, strong, solutions-based journalism will help my community to direct its attention to the reality of our situation. We cannot help ourselves unless we come to recognize the habits that are setting us back and the wealth of talent, strength, and skill of youth and women that we have yet to tap into.
