Girl to Girl Storytelling: Improving girl programming from the grassroots using Participatory Video for M&E

Participatory video is a set of techniques to involve a group or community in shaping and creating their own films. The idea is that making a video should be easy and accessible to everyone as a great way of bringing people together to explore issues, voice concerns or simply to be creative and tell stories.

InsightShare believes that the power of Participatory Video (PV) can strengthen Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation (PM&E) processes and therefore improve project delivery. Our aim is to make development projects more people driven, more accountable to their beneficiaries to stimulate positive change through stronger community voice and increased space for listening and sharing. InsightShare uses methodologies that are accessible, easy to implement and rigorous and accountable for beneficiaries, researchers and development organisations to use in international development projects.

We have worked with women from all over the world, helping them address issues like gender based violence, human rights, environment and many other crucial themes. One of our current programmes aims to build capacity to two groups of young women in Uganda and Guatemala in Participatory Video for M&E. These women are learning to make films that then inform programming and promote learning as well as peer to peer exchange for community mobilisation.
