Groupings of Tweets, and Public Lists, as Outreach at Twitter (Ex: “IPCR Outreach 2011”)

The Interfaith Peacebuilding and Community Revitalization (IPCR) Initiative is currently carrying out an ongoing effort called “IPCR Outreach 2011”.

This outreach effort includes:

1) discussion postings at various platforms
2) cover letters and “A Four Page Summary of The IPCR Initiative” sent by post mail to many people and organizations
3) sending occasional “groupings of tweets” at Twitter (as a way of linking short tweets with other related tweets)
4) references to 1000 Community Visioning Initiatives in association with a public list of possible outreach recipients “For IPCR Outreach 2011” at Twitter (to illustrate that there are many organizations which could form the coalitions necessary to carry out 1000 Community Visioning Initiatives).

[Note: A central focus of The IPCR Initiative is its advocacy for a combination Community Visioning Initiatives, “Community Teaching and Learning Centers” with ongoing workshops, and “sister community” relationships as a way of generating an exponential increase in our collective capacity to overcome the challenges of our times.]

This writer agrees with the following quote (made as a comment to a post at a platform he posts at) that “Twitter is used to point readers to particular discussions. The combination of substantive, ‘discussion starter’ posts and dissemination on Twitter seems to work”. He also adds that making a public list of possible recipients of outreach can illustrate potential, and share links at the same time.

This post is offered as a starting point for discussion on “IPCR Outreach 2011”—and on ways of making good use of Twitter to build support for specific causes, initiatives, and ideas. There may be people (like myself until recently) who have been reluctant to use Twitter because they don’t know how using it could help their work. Having experimented with Twitter over the course of two months now, I believe there is much potential for people to use Twitter to discover people working along similar lines, to form coalitions of people working along similar lines (creating # tag discussions will assist this process), and by sharing links to key documents and resources. “Problem solving on a scale most of us have never known before” may be necessary to resolve the challenges of our times. People who have relevant resources to share are encouraged to learn how to use Twitter, so they can be making use of as many pathways as possible for sharing such resources.

The IPCR Initiative is currently sending out “groupings of tweets” every four or five days (see example below) at Twitter. While a “grouping of tweets” larger than 3 or 4 can be annoying to find in the list of tweets in one’s “timeline” (especially when one is “following” the tweets of 100 or more people), all members of Twitter can “unfollow” anyone at any time, and thus stop receiving “groupings of tweets” from anyone. Further, it is unlikely that any individuals or organizations would use the strategy of “groupings of tweets” for long—as this strategy is for the “making connections” stage. Once connections are made, other forms of communication (email exchange, phone, skype, tele-conferencing, meetings, etc.) will go forward, obscure initiatives which deserve visibility will become more visible—and thus there will be no more need for “groupings of tweets”.

The following “grouping of tweets” is what The IPCR Initiative is currently trying as outreach on Twitter.
