I am and have been trying to help men to understand the value of respect for woman . There is a deep and seemingly hopeless ignorant mass of men with the view woman are some how inferior or less than men or worse something to control/own and use like a hat and discard . I am very fortunate to have had and have great role models who are woman . I watched as my Grandmother and Mother, how what they knew this vast and deep wisdom mostly viewed as useless because of there sex . I watched the violence they had to deal with when they tried to gain equity and a voice . This has formed in me a strong belief in all peoples right to be free of tyranny and violence and have worked on myself and my own prejudices and those of others on behalf of my role models like my Grandmother and all the Women and Men who formed me to honour them and benefit all as much as I can .

Hello Tenbear,

Welcome to PulseWire.

I think it is extremely important that men speak with other men about violence against women, especially domestic violence. Men are much more likely to hear other men when it comes to these issues, but it can be extremely difficult to find men who are prepared to speak out (in Australia at least). So it is refreshing to hear that you try to coommunicate around some of these issues with other men, and that you have found a way to honour the women in your life.

Best wishes,

It is a bit strange as a man to be on this site but I thought I should show my support . There is a lot of Violence today and violence is for weak ignorant people and it always prays on the vulnerable and many women for many reasons are put in that place as we both know , it's unbearable . I was drawn to this site when I heard a Woman speak about the horror of the massacre in the Philippians recently and she mentioned this site , I wanted to show support for her . I am grateful for good people wise people who work against this. I want to show support as much as possible and work for people . I am glad to lend a voice and feel fortunate to have the people I have in my life . I look at my daughters and want to empower them as much as possible as a father and a man . I am sure your people are grateful for you and your skills . What do you say in Australia , Good on ya . All the best thank you John Tenbear Thompson

Hi John,

Thanks for your support. PulseWire is an online community where members can share interests, goals, dreams, ideas, and concerns. Voilence (against women as well as other forms of violence) is a key issue for many members - both men and women - and your voice is a welcome addition. In the Voices Rising section of PulseWire you can view and comment on the latest posts from members. It is available here: http://www.worldpulse.com/pulsewire/voices

I'm sure Malayapinas, whom you heard speak about the trouble in the Philippines, would appreciate your support and be pleased to know that her story touched you. She can be found here: http://www.worldpulse.com/user/1209

I wish to welcome you and thank you for joining our community. Women cannot win this fight for equality alone, and we so appreciate all the men who support our rights. You are a role model to your daughters and to many in our community. You might want to join our group of male supporters, "Through his eyes", which is a space for strengthening women's voices worldwide to foster a global female network.

Thank you for your contributions in standing up for women's rights, especially in the arena of domestic violence and I look forward to reading more from you. Again, welcome. Janice Director of Operations, World Pulse

Hi John and Welcome!

Thank you for joining the Pulsewire community. Again, the equality of women cannot be gained without the participation of men, and so your support is a great thing! I look forward to reading your posts and hearing your opinions. I am every day interested in how we can convince our 'other half' to understand the reality of women around the globe. Sometimes, it is a rather depressing and frustrating experience. However, men like you who show their support, help immensely.

I was reading your journal and noticed your connection with Gaden Relief Projects. I also read about Lauren Galvin's experience in a Buddhist nunnery on the GRP site, and I thought she would be a great person to have on PulseWire. If you could encourage her to join, that would be wonderful!

Kind regards,

"Tell me then, what will you do with your one wild, sweet, and precious life?" -Mary Oliver

Although I am a supporter and friend of people in this organization I do not know Lauren very well . Nice to hear from you . all the best , Peace and love John Tenbear Thompson

Dear Tenbear,

I have the highest esteem and regard for men such as you. It is very manly- your courage to steer away from men's "comfort zone" - keeping the status quo, and challenge such, and being vocal about it. One could not imagine how the "typical" fellow men would "frown" or maybe cast you out from their league.

One of my vision for this world is to see "Men and Masculinity" redefined. Masculinity wherein power does not come from subjugating women, but POWER that comes from inner strength. Power, not that which emanates from fear and insecurity out of which one finds the necessity to aggress/outdo/dominate another, but POWER that comes from the courage to TRUST and have faith that the GOOD prevails.

As I have guessed, the significant persons who were the major influence on how you came to be what you are - that these are the significant women in your life - your Grandmother and Mother. We can start with that; and thus, mothers who raise sons can bring about this transformation beginning with how they raise their sons- inculcating the vaue of RESPECT and ESTEEM for women, as equals deserving equal right, privileges and regard as in all of humanity.

You are a pride of this humanity. You inspire Tenbear! More power to your aspirations and dreams!
