Empowered to Deliver.

This has been a wonderful journey, thinking about digital access and empowerment of women and this final part is especially exciting because it focuses on the heart of the matter, the life-changing stories of the impact of digital access. For a while i have wondered how we survived without internet and digital access whether on phone or computer. One can practically find all you need while seated at the comfort of your office or home, attain a degree online, do business and market your products to a vast audience that is not limited by any culture, race, ability or otherwise. I have been able to achieve so much in terms of acquiring knowledge, networking and accessing opportunities through the internet that i think its something every woman should have access to. The internet has helped reach my goals and is still helping me to. For starters, i was able to do my first professional course and get a certificate online through the Global eLearning network. I also learnt how to write a business proposal online and most recently joined a mentoring network which i find so fulfilling to be able to give back and learn from others.

This brings me to the important aspect of offline empowerment through online empowerment. By connecting with a mentor and and also being a mentor myself, i have been empowered through the internet. A few years back i joined a network of human Resource professionals in Kenya and just recently, we began a SACCO for purely HR professionals. I am yet to meet any of the members face to face but, we're getting empowered financially by bringing our resources together and all this began through online networking and interactions.

“Empowering women is empowering a nation.” This was rightly put by Michaelle Jean Canada’s past Governor General in a speech she gave to the Soweto Businesswomen’s Association in South Africa. I totally agree with this statement because the ripple effect is that not only will the nation be empowered, but the entire world. A digital space accessible to women all over the world will create a global network of change, governments will take action when women arise to make one voice heard digitally and policies will be enacted that offer equal rights where women are respected for who they are and given the space to become without being judged based on societal expectations. This is why i think it is extremely important that women are empowered digitally. Their voice will be heard by a wider audience and they will influence change on a larger scale.When women are empowered, it leads to national development and progress is achieved in all sectors of the society. This should be a key agenda to any government seeking to grow its economy. A new global study featured on fastcompany.com showed that the most successful company have women in charge. Further proving that empowering women is crucial.
