Hello! I'm so excited to be a part of World Pulse. Here is brief introduction to who I am and why I've decided to join the World Pulse Community. Looking forward to becoming an active member of the group!

Nicole Melancon www.thirdeyemom.com

I am a writer, blogger, and social good advocate living in Minneapolis, Minnesota with my husband and two children. A world wanderer at heart, I have been fortunate to have visited over 30 countries by either traveling, working, studying or volunteering.

A graduate of French and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin Madison, I have always been a Midwest gal living in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Chicago. I also had the opportunity to live in Paris and Marseille attending the University of Sorbonne and doing an internship with a french company. I love to be outside doing anything athletic (hiking, running, biking, skiing, snowshoeing or simply enjoying nature), to travel and volunteer abroad, to write, and to spend time with my beloved family and friends.

My dream is to teach my children to live compassionately, open-minded lives that understand different cultures and the importance of giving back to those in need. I believe strongly in the value of making a difference in the world, no matter how small it may be. If there is a will, there is a way, and that anything is possible (as long as you set your heart and mind to it!).

I also believe strongly in viewing the world and other cultures with a “third-eye” meaning with an open heart and mind, and always seeking understanding of the world. If you don’t travel through life and the world with a third eye, what will you see or understand?

My latest ventures involve advocating for the UN Foundation Shot@Life (a program that provides vaccines to children in developing countries), RESULTS (grassroots organization to end global poverty) and ONE as a ONE Moms Community Partner. I also am a proud member of Mom Bloggers for Social Good and the Global Team of 200, a group of women bloggers destined to change the world through our voice spreading awareness on issues such as global health, access to safe drinking water and sanitation, food security and education in the developing world. My proudest accomplishment: I have successfully raised money to help build two reading centers in rural Nepal.

I am also an editor of Human Rights and Social Good at World Moms Blog. My work has also been published on Huffington Post – Global Motherhood, Elephant Journal , Broken Light Photography and Open Salon. Besides thirdeyemom, I also have a travel photography blog called thethirdeyeworld.

Please feel free to drop me a line! Comments are always welcome and appreciated!

A very warm welcome to you. I know your experience here will provide enrichment as you will in turn be enriched. This community has become my family, and I stand in awe every day of their strength and courage. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have a question or a need. I have found the FAQ page very helpful. It is good to read through the 'voices rising' entries, respond when you feel so inclined, and add people to your community.

I have family in Minneapolis, so maybe our paths will cross someday.

All the best to you!

Thanks so much Michelle! I am still trying to figure out how this all works. I just haven't had the time yet. When I write a post, how do people find it? Where do I find yours? Maybe the FAQ page will answer this. I will try to figure out where it is and take a peak! Any tips or advice you have would be wonderful!!!

Thanks so much! Nicole

Hi Nicole- I apologize for my part- I usually give tips and hints, but for some reason failed to do so in my response to you. Here are a few things:

I have found the quickest way to enter into this community is to click on the "Community" tab from the main page- it's near the top and center in red. From there you can get to the "Voices Rising" link. There are pages and pages of journal entries you can peruse through. From there you can easily access and read journal entries, and perhaps make a comment in reply. In order to add people to your community, click on the person's name. You will be taken to their profile, and can click on the 'add to my community' link under their photo.

From the 'Community' page you can also access resources, action alerts, and campaigns. You can also hover over the 'commmunity' tab, scroll to the bottom of the list, and click on 'topics and regions'. From there you can search for topics or areas of the world you are interested in and read entries and articles specific to your interests or needs. The FAQ page is helpful, as is the 'getting started' guide. http://worldpulse.com/pulsewire/about/guide

You can also look through the directory at various staff or volunteer members. http://worldpulse.com/user/directory Any of the 'vocal contributors', 'welcomers' or staff may be able to enlighten you as well.

We look forward to your first journal entry as well. You can write a short piece on a passion or vision, or write about an experience or situation you would like to share with fellow women. We would love to hear how you heard about WP, and what drew you to the organization. Other WP members will see your entry under the 'voices rising' tab, and can comment or reply.

Please do not hesitate to ask any other questions if you need to.

Thanks again Michelle! This is so helpful! I heard about it through Melody from the International Reporting Project. She went on a trip to Zambia along with another woman I work with Jennifer James, as well as a woman from World Pulse. I followed their trip and we became online friends. She recommended I check it out. It looks amazing! I'm an independent blogger on travel, culture and social good. The Social Good area is what I'm really trying to develop and World Pulse looks like I could learn a ton about issues I'm currently writing about on my blog and other issues I'd love to write about down the road. Thanks so much again! :)
