Gender Analysis

I attended an event (COUNTRY OWNERSHIP: Risks and Results) at the Rayburn House Office Building (Room 2255 used by the Sub-Committee on Foreign Relations). It was co-sponsored by 2 very good organizations - Save the Children - US, and Women THRIVE.

This event was a follow up on the recent UN MDG Summit in New York, when President Obama announced a bold, new U.S. government policy on global development. More than 100 people were in attendance.

I was pleased by the panel discussion; 5 people touched on the possible risks and results of bringing this approach to scale within U.S. development policy and practice. Country ownership is essential to achieving progress and successful outcomes against the 8 MDGs by 2015.

The US has been doing foreign assistance for more than 40, and the world has changed incredibly during that time. I have attended several events in the Washington, DC metro area over the last few weeks since the UN Global Summit in September. It is pleasing to see all the efforts to ensure that both women and men part of development strategies. It is important to encourage women to participate, now more than ever. World Pulse is therefore, such a great initiative, and I want to encourage readers of this platform to build their skills and understanding of how to effectively utilize Web 2.0 platforms.
