How It All Began For Me

Every once in a while, there comes a turning point where we have to make a decision that steers our lives into a different direction altogether from the path that we had been taking. About three years ago, I made one of those decisions that has led me to become one of World Pulse’s VOF applicants today.

I have always been passionate about writing, creating, innovating and building. However, I did not have much of a channel through which I could harness my interests unrestrainedly. It was through some serious soul-searching that I realised I wanted much, much more than what my job and life then had to offer.

It felt so difficult to take the first step of courage to turn my life around. I quit my job and decided to return to University in order to re-train myself as well as gain some new knowledge and skills. I invested all of my life savings to see me through a year of full-time education, taking up a Masters course in International Relations, from which I have now graduated with distinction.

Doing my course, my mind was exposed to a wide spectrum of international issues like economic and commercial development, finance and poverty, law and security, environmental sustainability, social and cultural progress, crime and terrorism as well as human rights. It was the beginning of self realisation for me - the understanding of what is most important to me, engaging in what I am meant to do and striving for what I am capable of achieving.

I also started to get involved in charity jobs and voluntary work. I mentored, counselled and provided support to students with difficulties. I planned, set up and carried out charity events and activities at the University centre. I wrote working papers and prepared administrative paperwork to support fundraising campaigns from start to finish. I also developed, established and maintained close relationships with aid sponsors.

I want to contribute to the VOF opportunity because I want to share my time and progress my newly acquired knowledge and skills. I want to give valued opinions, design unique solutions, redress problems, take action and make positive changes. I want to join other women and be actively engaged in aid events, cause campaigns and fundraising endorsements, working alongside reputable international charitable foundations, non-profit organisations, governmental institutions, media press as well as corporate companies.

I believe that working with World Pulse will allow me to get involved in work that extends the limits of my capability. The bringing together of World Pulse’s philanthropic philosophies and the voices of women all over the world coincides with my personal vision to build a movement where all women will be awakened, inspired, challenged and transformed to be all that we want to be.

When we are the best that we can be, we hold the promise of a better, brighter and decidedly more secure future.
