- Au niveau de la protection : mesure de santé publique (construction des latrines, aménagement des sources, hygiène alimentaire) ;

The Necessity of Intervention in Public Health

In general, when something is continuously invested in over a long period of time, goals are surpassed. This was the origin, in developing countries, of the awareness of physicians working in cardiovascular restoration, of the severity of cardiovascular problems. Thus we began to see the first epidemiological measurements, the idea of prevention and emerging anti-tobacco measures, and the appearance of low-cholesterol foods.

All of these phenomenons revealed profound changes in attitudes, behaviors, and were the fruits of an active health education campaign. They were also the origin of reductions in the incidence of cardiovascular sicknesses, and emphasized again the importance of integrated action. These campaigns were effective and socially pertinent.

For example, diarrhea provides an instructive example:
- At the level of restoration: anti-diarrheal + oral re-hydration therapy (ORT)

- At the level of protection: public health measures (the construction of latrines, design of water sources, basic hygiene)
- At the level of promotion: public health measures

In integrated actions, there were several factors: the politics and urbanization in the development of cities, the piping of clean or sewage water, the popularization of the use or wearing of amulets for children, the reduction of taxes in the trade of essential nutrients. What is your opinion?
