Today I start to make a difference

I am a woman who has grown up in the United States with so many advantages. I read Half the Sky and this book led me to World Pulse. I feel a very strong burden in my heart to help and unify with other women in the world but I do not know where or how to begin. So, here goes:

It sounds shallow compared to the challenges other women face, but the greatest challenge in my community for logging in and participating online is most likely time, not resources. Many women in America born with resources have created worlds around them where they are "too busy" to do what they feel in their heart may be the most important thing they need to do.

The local library in Riverside is easy to use the internet, but especially at the downtown location, there are so shady characters seeking shelter in the library. Certainly may not feel safe after nightfall even in our safe town.

One resource I do know of is McDonalds (no, I don't own stock). I just know from experience that you can go into most McDonalds in the United States, and there is free internet. They say with purchase, but most locations I have noticed do not monitor that closely. This should apply at most McDonalds, but just in case, here is a webpage where you can put in an address and get the closest McDonalds with free wifi

http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/services/free_wifi.html

I think more cities should offer free wifi city wide. Many large cities are doing this. My city, Riverside has it downtown, but they need to expand it. Cities could do this at no cost, especially utilizing advertisers, and give access to the world for many people.

I want to be involved. I want to make a difference. I am especially interested in medical issues, advocacy.
Today I start.
