2013 VOF WEEK TWO

VOF WEEK 2. My Hope, my Vision
I got introduced to World Pulse by Bridget Osakwe of WIPNET.Women in Peace Building. It is very interesting reading stories on women issues written by women themselves…..no one can tell our stories better. He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches.
As the producer of Voices of Women Radio,Plateau Radio and Television Corporation, it was a resource base for me.I drew from the rich stories to develop the content of the Voices of Women Radio programme which is broadcast in the local language.
Having access to World Pulse website has empowered me to speak on women issues with so much data, making communities reflect on their needs with a view to solving them.
One of my treasured programme is the transformation of social associations to income generation. Hitherto, women met to lament over their challenges .But like the rocking chair that takes one nowhere, they did nothing to improve their lot.
Reading stories on world Pulse has also empowered me to encourage victims of vesico vagina fistula to speak out…tell their stories of man’s inhumanity to man, that others may learn and not fall prey…that they may know they have reproductive rights .
I have been inspired by the strong voices of women on Voices of the future yearning to be heard and calling for actions. The web 2.0 as a tool for development has also inspired me…the interaction, the feedback mechanism and the number of people that can hear ones story is just great.
To really get the benefit to the grassroot,I am setting up a friendship centre where women and girls can learn the computer and know the world about the outside that of the village.
Meanwhile, with the enriched content of the Voices of Women radio I am forming listening groups and using the focus group discussion method to ensure understanding of programme content.
