Introducing myself and my journal: It Ends With Me...It Starts With me...

About Me:
Marsha Jones is co-founder and HIV Prevention Program Director of The Afiya Center HIV Prevention & Sexual Reproductive Justice and Sisters Strategically Mobilized Around Reproductive Justice Together (sSMART). She is also a graduate of the Black AIDS Institute’s African American HIV University, National Secretary Campaign to End AIDS, and very involved with grassroot organizing around addressing social, culteral, environmental, economic, and human rights issues that negatively impact and create the disparities the exist and decrease the quality of life of women around the world. Drawing on over 10 years experience in HIV/AIDS arena organizes and advocate for people living with HIV, homelessness, poverty, and other disparities impacting women and girls specifically black women, and women and girls of color. I have been a victim of racism, classism and sexism and these things for a long time prevented me from reaching what I thought was my fullest potential but I realized that those things were only preparing me for what I would do later in life. I was a poor black women very overweight trying to climb the cooporate ladder in a society that find it so easy to discriminate against people that are overweight or not as attractive as one might think they need to be. I believe thar all people should have equal access to the same things is your basic human right. I have devoted this season, for however long it last, of my life to bringing attention to these inequalities working hard to mobilize people around them to cause a change. I have the greatest desire to work directly with women from around the world but I have not had that chance yet but I know that it will happen and soon. I believe that women all over the world face the same challenges are at least the same factors drive our challenges and I would love the opportunities to work collectively with women sharing our successes and challenges to create permanent change around the world.
