Rural Girls on Rescue Women Scholarhip: Equipping them with Computer Skills

Immediately after the VOF training in 2013, the thought of being solutions-oriented didn't leave me. With immediate effect (from VOF) I founded Rescue Women Girls Scholarship with the objective of paying tuition for poor and needy girls who had been caught out of mainstream education because of poverty.

In 2014/2015, the first set of scholarship for girls in Government Secondary School Bai Kuke kicked with 7 girls on the ticket, and one woman in Bamenda taking skills training to become a seamstress. It was very satisfying to meet that objective aimed at.

The 2015/2016 academic year saw an increase in the number of girls on the scholarship row. It moved from 8 total to 20 total on the row. These girls all live 3 different rural village communties in Cameroon (Bai Kuke, Bafut & Nkwen). Their parents are poor farmers.

In December this year, I thought of empowering the girls of Bai Kuke more. Then I introduced the Basic Computer lessons for all the girls in the scholarship row in Bai Kuke village. For the few days that I stayed in the village, I had four training sessions with the girls and they were, in effect, seeing and touching a computer for the first time. They were so excited being in control -- switching on the computer, typing, cutting and pasting and doing some basic things all by themselves.

The highlight of my visit, was when a few community member in Bai Kuke came to my fathers house [in Bai Kuke] with some bottles of drinks to say "thank you" for empowering girls of that community.

I can't wait to empower girls more!!!
