A sense of liberation

I have no writing training, but I have loved writing for as long as I can remember. And all I wanted to do and still crave for is to write. As I grew older, it was obvious something was not right. The sexes are in a war! And that war is far from over. I did not just want to write but writing that brings about taking critical look at social change so the war may cease.
From as early as eight, I entered into my own world of using the pen and drowned in poetry, short stories and I just found liberty in that world.

Then I struggled for my voice to be heard, oh that cost me much for the little attention it has gained. Fighting for space, having to run the extra mile because of my gender, the competition was stiff and for what? I know for sure we are better and tell it better! I am excited about the vast possibilities that Web 2.0 presents. You can tell it as it is – no restrictions’ and the world can read you, particularly women. We can write about our own concerns, fears, issues, profer solutions, contribute and have our voices heard. It provides learning and unlearning exposure.

It affords a huge sea of networking and socializing with women that there is no way under heaven you could have met. Right at one location, I can take a stroll across the globe and be connected.

There are no excuses anymore. Ordinary folks that had no space can have their space and their voices heard. Dreams can be fulfilled. We can contribute to generating change in a new and dynamic way that can be collectively achieved at community, regional and global levels. The balance of statistics can be attainable - more women can access information and contribute to global issues; more stories will focus on women; citizen journalism will assist in turning ordinary women to headliners and more women experts will be cited in global news. It is the dawning of a new era!

Then comes the World Wide Web – I call it ‘Women Wide World.’ I found and has been fascinated by this magical world. Yet, I do not understand its whole potential! I am not yet drunk with the benefits of www and then a there is a new call - Web 2.0 and its accomplices citizen media, social media and the unending privileges that the internet affords.

I am new to the whole experience of women space such as PulseWire, I am still savoring the stories and learning of issues that affect women as they cut across borders, cultures, languages, color, religion, education etc. I am simply living a new experience. Once again, I have that sense of liberty again!
