Desire ambition, live your dream and let no one put you down – Konadu tells women

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on Thursday urged women to be very ambitious and determine to see their dreams through.

Underscoring her belief in ambition as a major driver of human advancement, the President and Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement said but for ambition, the world would not have known some commonplace inventions such as the radio.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings featured on Drive Time on Joy FM’s the Personality Profile hosted by Bola Ray on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

“Don’t let anybody convince you that you are over ambitious. Ambition is good, I have said it today and I will say it again nobody should tell you that you are over ambitious. Ambition is good, be ambitious, if it wasn’t for ambition, we won’t be sitting behind this radio, if it wasn’t for ambition, you know, we won’t have even bottled water, if it wasn’t for ambition we won’t have cell phones. Get your ambition and get to the skies with your dream ...”

Highly praised as one of Ghana’s pioneer emancipators of Ghanaian women politically, Nana Konadu forewarned that challenges would come the way of any woman desiring to break from the bonds that weigh her down but such should not discourage her one bit.

“Don’t let anybody deter you, but in the course of doing that make sure that you pull at least one or two women along with you. Pull one or two women or two young ladies that you can mentor so that they learn the good things off you and help them to reduce the negativity about what a woman should be. Do your best.”

In what was to be a hearty chat, Nana Konadu among other things talked of her early childhood, strong parentage deeply rooted in royalty, school days, ideals that shaped her perspectives, meeting former President Rawlings at Achimota School, family, politics and the joys and pains of having to multi-task in the days of the Revolution her husband led .
