Kudos to the 2011 Nobel Peace Laureates

As Kenya prepares for the funeral service of the first African woman Nobel Peace laureate, Wangari Maathai, tomorrow Saturday 8 October 2011, what a joy it was to hear the news that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2011 has been awarded to three women activists, Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee, and Yemeni journalist and peace activist Tawakul Karman.

In a sense, this award also serves as a fitting tribute to the life work of Prof Wangari Maathai who was a peace champion in her own right.

Kudos, ladies! May your noble work further inspire the continuing struggle for the protection of women's rights.
